Video is fast becoming the norm for digesting information. It’s fast, easy to consume, and capable of telling big stories in a short amount of time which makes it perfect for supplementing a regular old resume. Your Pointe Profile® consists of three categories for using video to present yourself in addition to a video interview.
The Experience, Insights, and Testimonial sections are your ticket to showcasing you at your best with video. There are many options available for creating videos, but we wanted to provide a list of a few here.
Whether you are a Mac or a PC, there are video applications available for both platforms. For Windows users, Movie Maker® is included as far back as the Windows Essentials 2012 program suite, which means it’s available to use right out-of-the-box for 2012 machines and newer. Mac users have iMovie® available on their computers.
If you feel more comfortable creating presentations, PowerPoint and Keynote can export presentations to video files. While you can easily create a static presentation with images and embedded files, you can also record animations, transitions, voiceovers, and pointer clicks to enhance your video.
If you are a little more software savvy and like the idea of crafting an animated video, here are a few other providers to check out:
You can upload videos to the Testimonials, Experience, and Insights tabs. For this post, we will touch on the Experience and Insights tabs.
The Experience tab is where you can expound upon details of your professional experience and how what you’ve done in previous work applies to a new position. When creating videos for the Experience tab, ask yourself, “What question would I like to be asked regarding my experience?” then answer the question with a 2-minute video. If there is a specific project, portfolio, design, or competency that you want to highlight which you would like to highlight, use video to demonstrate your experience.
The Insights tab is where you can provide more detail about who you are and what you do outside of work experience but is still relevant to the job you want. For Insights, ask yourself, “What question do I wish they would ask me about my life that has nothing to do with my job, but everything to do with why I will be awesome here?”
While there are many factors in choosing what you will use, the result must be a video file that you can share. Finally, remember that the video you create should be relevant to the job you want.
Creating videos is fun, and the tools are easily available to you! Have fun and let the world know who you are, what you can do, and why you are awesome using video in your Pointe Profile®!
